Advantages of synergistic blends
Microemulsions prepared from hydrophilic nonionic siloxanes and cationic siloxanes are stable and easy-to-handle low viscosity liquids, with good substantivity to textiles. They impart premium softness combined with good rewetting properties and excellent non-yellowing. By replacing the cationic siloxane by an organic quat the basic performance properties of the cationic formulations are comparable to the properties of the siloxane-based formulations, while the antistatic properties and substantivity are enhanced and the cost of the raw materials is reduced.

Nonionic Emulsifiers
REWOPAL® LA 6 (linear C12-C14 fatty alcohol 6 EO) can be replaced 1:1 by nonylphenol ethoxylate 6 EO or isotridecyl alcohol ethoxylate 6 EO. REWOPAL® LA 10-80 (linear C12-C14 fatty alcohol 10 EO, 80 % in water) can be replaced 1:1 (on actives basis) by nonylphenol 8 EO or isotridecyl alcohol ethoxylate 8 EO.
Preparation of siloxane - organic quat blends (F1A, F2A, F1B, F2B)
| Pre-Mix | Deluted Pre-Mix | Cationic Blend |
| (1) Nonionic emulsifier | (1) Pre-mix | (1) Deluted pre-mix |
| (2) Butyldiglycol (BDG) | (2) Water | (2) Organic quat |
| (3) Nonionic siloxane (TP 7008 or TP 5884) | (3) Acetid acid (if needed) | |
The nonionic emulsifier, butyldiglycol (BDG) and the nonionic siloxane (TEGOPREN 7008 or TEGOPREN 5884) are charged into the blending vessel and homogenized by heating (35 - 40 °C) slightly. The water (at room temperature) is added slowly to the warm pre-mix while stirring continuously. Acetic acid is added to the dilution if pH correction is desired. The organic quaternary is preheated to 45 - 50 °C and added slowly in small portions to the diluted pre-mix. The blend is homogenized at 45 - 50 °C for about 30 minutes, then it is cooled down to room temperature and filled into drums.
